Frazier School District: Allow Virtual School Board Meetings

Frazier School District: Allow Virtual School Board Meetings
The Issue
Parents, teachers, and community members of Frazier School District are asking the school board to provide virtual access to board meetings. Many families can’t attend in person, and the district isn’t currently posting meeting minutes within the 10 days required by Pennsylvania’s Sunshine Law. Virtual access would increase transparency, ensure accountability, and make it easier for all community members to stay informed and involved.
📜 Full Petition Text (Main Body):
We, the undersigned parents, teachers, and community members of the Frazier School District, respectfully request that the Board of Education implement the option for virtual or live-streamed school board meetings.
Why This Is Important:
Virtual access strengthens transparency, community engagement, and accessibility. Many families and residents are unable to attend in-person meetings due to work schedules, childcare responsibilities, health concerns, or transportation challenges. Providing virtual access ensures that all voices in our community can remain informed and involved in decisions affecting our schools and students.
Our Requests:
Offer live virtual access to all school board meetings through a secure, commonly used platform (e.g., Zoom, YouTube Live, or Facebook Live).
Post meeting recordings on the district website for anyone unable to attend live.
Provide virtual options for public comment, when possible, so community members can participate equally.
Accountability and Transparency Matter:
Many school districts across Pennsylvania and the country already provide safe, secure, and effective virtual access to board meetings. These systems have proven to be reliable tools for public engagement without compromising meeting integrity.
According to Pennsylvania’s Sunshine Law (65 Pa.C.S. §§ 701–716), board meeting minutes must be made available to the public within 10 days of the meeting being held. Unfortunately, this requirement is currently not being met by Frazier School District.
Offering virtual access and recordings would help ensure compliance with the Sunshine Law and keep our community fully informed of important district matters.
By implementing virtual access, Frazier School District can demonstrate its commitment to transparency, accountability, and trust with the community it serves.
Our Goal:
We urge the Frazier School District Board of Education to take this important step toward openness and inclusivity by allowing virtual or live-streamed access to all future meetings.
Together, we can ensure that every parent, teacher, and resident has an equal opportunity to stay informed and engaged in shaping the future of our schools.
