Dedicated Anesthesiologist for Maternity at Royal Columbian Hospital plus two OBs on site

On August 18 2020 our baby girl was born via emergency c-section at Royal Columbian Hospital. Exactly 1 hour and 37 minutes after it was identified that this was an emergency... too long. Our daughter died.

i will try to keep this brief and keep emotion out of it. Royal Columbian Hospital does not have an anesthesiologist dedicated to maternity and has only one OB on site. This means that if you are an emergency, you better hope that you’re the only one.

Royal Columbian Hospital serves a large population and service is not equitable compared with Vancouver or Surrey. Women’s and Surrey Memorial have two OBs on site and a dedicated anesthesiologist.

Upon hospital review - this is a known problem and other women and children have suffered as a result. Fraser Health has not yet funded the extra staffing requirement.

ENOUGH IS ENOUGH.

the women and babies of New Westminster and the tri cities deserve better. I hope to gain enough signatures to take to Fraser Health and demand change.
