There has been a proposal for a $10.00 increase for Pet Owners in Rockford due to the increased bill issued to the city by the Winnebago County Animal Shelter. I believe WCAS should be held accountable for their spending. I believe an audit is in order with the results
made public for all to see.

I'm sure there are numerous ways WCAS can cut spending other than to punish the group of people who are already paying extra to the shelter by purchasing yearly tags for their pets. One way would be to cut back on euthanization. Becky Baux researched the cost of euthanization and found it to be an average of $150.00 per pet. Since WCAS kills over 3,000 animals per year that is a cost of over $450,000.00 to taxpayers! The NO KILL coalition has tried working with WCAS in an effort to save the animals and taxpayer money but WCAS refuses to work with the group. Instead, WCAS just keeps charging taxpayers more money without having to be held accountable for where our money is going.

Another way to increase revenue would be PLACE A SIN TAX ON FURRY BABIES & PETLAND!!

People will now be reluctant to adopt a pet or
worse yet will start to flood the shelter with pets they can no longer afford to care for. That could mean the already exorbitant number of pets euthanized monthly at the shelter would increase! I urge everyone to sign this petition and make your objection to this proposed fee known to the County Board. Also, please contact your alderman directly.
