Ban Horse Carriages in Downtown Cleveland

Ban Horse Carriages in Downtown Cleveland
The Issue
Horses in downtown Cleveland have no protection or welfare laws. Driving or walking downtown and seeing horses having to walk behind, in front or, or next cars is a very frightening site for me let alone them. Horses already face enough abuse and exploitation being used for carriages when in this century and city there are multiple other means of transportation - having to be around loud noises, loud cars and pollution only makes this exploitation worse for them. Horses are very sensitive beings when it comes to loud noises, and in downtown cleveland they are surrounded by noise. Not to mention they are not protected when it comes to freezing winters - they still have to carry people even then. Now, as we all know Cleveland isn't the best city when it comes to undamaged and perfect roads, in 2014 a horse in Downtown Cleveland tripped and fell over a part of a road that needed repairs and was not able to get up. Please help me and many other animal rights activists in Cleveland put a ban to horse carriages. Once horses get older they are typically sent to meat factories, zoos to be exploited or killed, and so on.
Here's some typical facts about the horse carriage industry:
- Horses can legally be worked to carry passengers up to 9 hours per day
- Horses are forced to carry passengers no matter the temperature ; a blizzard, wrenchingly hot, rain, etc
- Carriage horses live in stalls half their size that are barely cleaned or taken good care of
- Horses are terrified of traffic and loud noises (hence - this petition!)
