No public park should ever be named for a living politician at taxpayer expense.  The death of NYPD Det. Brian Moore on the same day as Sen. Skelos's arrest this past May only served to raise our attention to this issue.  With the recent conviction of NY State Senator Dean Skelos, the absurdity of a sports complex named after him has become even more profound.

This petition encourages Rockville Centre to consider renaming the park for someone who served and sacrificed.

Many others would also be more deserving of consideration of this honor.  Like US Marine Corps 1st Lieutenant Ronald Winchester.  On Sept. 3, 2004, Lt. Winchester was killed when a roadside bomb exploded while he was serving in Al-Anbar province in Iraq.  Lt. Winchester, 25, was a resident of Rockville Centre.  Let's honor his service and sacrifice by putting his name on this park.

If our politicians aren't humble enough to recognize the undeserved recognition, we need to remind them.  Let's show our politicians that we won't stand for these types of undeserved perks in our state any longer.  Sign this petition to Rockville Centre Mayor Murray to help bring about this change.
