I came across this article about 18 month old Pit bull terrier called Francis, who was scheduled to die today, Tuesday 26th July 2016. With this petition and by working together with many groups who are fighting for the end of Breed Specific Legislation, we were able to secure one more day of life for Francis.
He is going to die because he is a pitbull terrier. He currently resides in Battersea Dogs Home and it has been said he is a playful, friendly and healthy dog. Who has the right to take his life?? All because of the way he looks!!
As a collective group, we have made contact with Battersea Dogs Home who have now released a statement saying that Francis cannot be saved as they cannot break the law. No one is asking them to break the law, we want them to accept help for Francis from a reputable legal firm who has experience and success in saving BSL dogs. This legal firm knows how to save Francis and is ready to go but unfortunately Battersea haven't given them instruction to do so!!
Battersea has its own legal advice team and they are adamant they are acting on the advice of their solicitor Trevor Cooper, who has advised them Francis must be put to sleep because of how he looks. Surely if there is a way to save a life, its worth looking into??
We are not disrespecting Battersea or the legal team there, as I'm sure they do a good job. However, in this case of Breed Specific Legislation, surely it makes sense to accept help and advice from people who have been successful in these cases before!
We are also demanding The Dangerous Dogs Act 1991 is reviewed and amended to make sure it is not killing dogs due to being a certain breed, this does not make them a dangerous dog!
We are calling for Battersea and Trevor Cooper to work together with the legal team who have already made contact with them. If there is a chance to save Francis and potentially other dogs, why don't they take it?
Over 20,000 signitures on this petition in one day alone....shows how passionate we are to #savefrancis and #EndBSL
I want to see the reprieve of Francis and to be able to help other dogs in this horrendous situation, we need the Dangerous Dogs Act 1991 brought up to date and amended asap!
WE NEED TO ACT QUICKLY TO SAVE FRANCIS! SIGN AND SHARE PLEASE!!
