You stood with us as we demanded Frances Cogelja's resignation for 521 days. This is a win for all of us, but especially for the students and staff who are of color and/or members of the LGBTQIA community. It took longer than we wanted, but make no mistake, WE DID THIS TOGETHER.

But Cogelja was only part of a larger problem. Hackensack still needs you.

You joined our cause because you understand Cogelja had no place influencing our children's education. She is a bigot. She calls the LGBTQIA community "disgusting" and "repugnant." She has threatened members of the public, who she said she doesn't respect. She abstained on a vote committing the district to anti-racism.

Yesterday she voted to extend her own term by eight months. And, as her final embarrassing act, she took her computer into the bathroom during last night's BOE meeting, broadcasting her bare bottom to nearly 150 participants—including current students who called in.

While she resigned today in shame, let's not forget why it took so long for her to step down. She ran for the Board with now-President Lance Powell, and their campaign was funded by the City Council's PAC (over $10,000) and vendors looking to cash in on our district. She was THEIR choice—and they spent tons of cash pushing her on the public.

For too long, the Council and their allies on the BOE stood alongside her even as she did the indefensible; protecting their investment and political futures was more important than standing up for the most vulnerable in our community and Hackensack values.
