The reinstatement of Beck O'Connor at the position of Dean of Students and the reevaluation of Father Joseph Costantino's position as the President of Canisius High School

The Issue

We at Canisius High School pride ourselves on the Jesuit idea of the Graduate at Graduation. That system is based on five major themes: Open to Growth, Intellectually Competent, Religious, Loving, and Committed to Doing Justice. On Monday the Dean of Students, Mr. Beck O’Connor, was fired from his position because the Jesuit (not Board) elected President of our school “lost faith in his ability to do his job.” It seems that the decision to fire Mr O’Connor was solely based on Fr Costantino’s opinion of the situation and not on the choice of the school administration, faculty, or student body. Now I ask you, did you lose faith in Mr O’Connor’s ability to do his job? If not I implore you, going back to one of the themes of our Grad at Grad system, to not let this injustice fall by the waist side. We must be committed to fixing this issue! Over the passed 72 hours students as well as alumni have voiced their opinion on the subject. This was seen in the hallways, on twitter, during the protest on Wednesday, and even on the news. They spoke of how great a man Beck O’Connor was, how he bled blue and gold, and how he made them into the men they are today. We will not stand to see a man who loves this school so much be cast out so unjustly as he was Monday morning. Mr. O’Connor is the most equipped man for the Dean of Students job. He is beloved by students, parents, teachers, administration, and alumni alike. Our student body's actions during those tough 72 hours shows how much we look up to Mr O’Connor and how much we need him at this school. He is what makes this school not just successful in molding scholars and athletes, but also in molding men for others, who serve their community and city just as Mr O’Connor does. He is a role model that all students should look up to and that is why we need him back at Canisius High School as the Dean of Students. Without him we have lost what makes Canisius High School the best high school in WNY.

In signing this petition you agree that Mr. Beck O’Connor should be reinstated as the Dean of Students at Canisius High School and Fr. Joseph Costantino’s position as President of Canisius High School should be reevaluated.
