I've always been passionate about esports. It was my friends who introduced me to this incredible world and convinced me to attend our school due to it's esports program. FPS (First-person shooter) games have become an integral part of our esports community and our school's competitive spirit. These games are not simply a pastime; they foster critical thinking skills, teamwork, and coordination. Globally, there are 495 million esports fans, contributing to a $1.1 billion industry in 2020 (Source: Newzoo's Global Esports Market Report). Unfortunately, there have been some discussions about removing FPS games from our district's esports competitions. We urgently need to address this and preserve our cherished gaming culture. FPS games are important to hundreds of students in our organization who participate in these competitions. As such, they should continue to be an inclusive part of our esports landscape.
