Foundation issues being caused by Wetlands fill
The Issue
Wetlands are being filled in all over the South Carolina Lowcountry. As a Realtor, I go in many homes and see the foundation issues created by these fill ins. This process normally occurs within 7 years, so a new home warranty will help rebuild, but this is only temporary, it will occur again, probably the next time when the warranty is gone. People lose their homes because they can’t afford to fix it. State and Federal laws allow for the filling of these wetlands with no disclosure. A developer should have to disclose on the deed that the home is built on filled wetlands, instead of the current Let the Buyer Beware. I am advocating for a law to be put in place that will require a developer to disclose.
