Fostering Victoria's CDS (container deposit scheme)

The issue

We are young residents of Dandenong North, VIC, Australia and we believe that our community has the potential to make a significant impact on waste reduction. The issue is personal to us as it involves the future of our environment and a healthy place for generations to come. The implementation of Victoria's container deposit scheme (CDS) could be transformative for our waste management system. I can pretty much hear you asking.. "What exactly is this scheme and what else can we profit from it other than a healthy environment?" Well, for starters, it rewards Victorians with a 10-cent refund for every eligible can, carton & bottle they return, encouraging recycling within the community.

This initiative needs more recognition and promotion from our government. It is estimated that Australians consume billions of beverages in containers each year; unfortunately, many end up in landfill or littered around our beautiful landscapes. If you were all to acknowledge CDS, first of all, by signing this petition, not only would we be closer to reducing unnecessary waste but we would also contribute positively towards environmental sustainability.

This petition has been made as a call to action for local government officials to promote and advertise Victoria's CDS within Dandenong North and encourage residents to actively participate. By doing so, we can take much-needed strides toward reducing unnecessary waste while also rewarding those who take part.
