Historic District For The Stockyards

The Issue

The Fort Worth Stockyards are the most intact and important historic and architectural resources of their kind in the world. Among many important stories of western history, they tell the authentic story of livestock processing in the early 20th century. Currently, the Stockyards’ historic structures have insufficient protections from various threats due to proposed development.
Will the Stockyards survive to tell the story of the great western livestock herds?  Or will the historic Stockyards be overwhelmed by new development?
Help save the Stockyards' legacy for our citizens and visitors.  Ask the Fort Worth City Council to approve a City of Fort Worth historic district for the Stockyards.
The Stockyards Task Force, contrary to the public's perception, has been given no authority to preserve and protect the history and authenticity of the Stockyards historic structures; the Stockyards Task Force has no authority to authorize a local historic designation for the Stockyards; Stockyards visitors come to see the unique combination of the history of the livestock processing industry and western culture which generates millions of dollars for the Fort Worth economy; the preservation of the history and authenticity of the Stockyards is crucial to past, present and future generations of people in Fort Worth, Texas and all of the United States; the City has provided $26 million in tax incentives to the project developers which makes Fort Worth citizens significant investment partners in the project who expect protection of key historic structures in the Stockyards in return for their investment; and the preservation of the Fort Worth Stockyards is the City’s responsibility of stewardship of a public legacy and will enhance the successful development of property in the area; now therefore,
petition the Fort Worth City Council to vote and approve a local City of Fort Worth historic district for the Stockyards.
