We won a virtual learning option--let’s keep up the momentum and win a mask mandate for FWISD! Show up, speak up, or send an email to be read aloud at the next Board Meeting this Thursday night!
Call to Action: Demand a Board VOTE for a Mask Mandate!
Regardless of the shifting legal landscape, the FWISD Board of Trustees has an opportunity to VOTE and go on record in support of a mask mandate at the meeting this Thursday, August 26 at 5:30pm at the Professional Development Center, 3150 McCart Ave.
Tell them we want them to Be Bold for Kids! Even if the law restricts them, we want them to make GOOD TROUBLE and fight to keep our kids and community safe! Send another email to the Trustees and ask them to do the RIGHT thing instead of playing political games [their email addresses are also copied below].
We need as many people as possible to show up in person, if you’re available. Once again, you can sign up to speak by calling 817-814-1956 before 4:00pm on Thursday. OR, we now have the option to submit comments via email to be read aloud during the meeting. Email your written comment to amanda.coleman@fwisd.org before 4:00pm on Thursday. Remember that all public comments (including emails) will be read aloud and limited to a maximum time of ONE minute, so keep them brief!
At last night’s meeting, we listened as staff read 23 consecutive email comments in support of virtual learning and masks, with ZERO in opposition. It was powerful! Tomorrow will be a different story. It’s vital that we send in as many comments as possible in order to provide balance for the Board. Text your friends and ask them to email their comments too!
Update on Virtual Option
Our organizing paid off--last night, the FWISD Board of Trustees approved a new Temporary Virtual Learning Option. It is primarily for grades K-6 and features six hours of live daily instruction on Zoom, including one hour per day of specials (art, PE, music). You can get all the details here. The application is available now and is due before midnight on August 29.
We encourage ALL parents who want a virtual option to APPLY before the deadline. Approximately 2,000 seats are currently available, but more spots may be opened depending on demand. The following groups will be prioritized, in order:
- Students with a verifiable medical condition that keeps them from attending in-person instruction
- Students who live with a K-6 grade sibling with a verifiable medical condition
- Students who live with a family member who has a verifiable medical condition
- Students who are not currently able to get vaccinated [i.e., ALL students under 12]
More information on the virtual option can be found in the Star-Telegram.
Thanks for taking action to keep our kids and community safe!
