The flag of Denver Colorado shows the yellow sun rising proudly over a red mountain surrounded by a navy blue sky. The Loveland Colorado flag shows a grass green mountain reflecting over a clear water river. Both of these visually appealing Colorado flags wave proudly over the cities they belong to, so you’d expect Fort Collins, a city full of art and rich culture, would have a flag that represents that quality... but it’s exactly the opposite. The Fort Collins flag depicts a brown stripe on a blue background with the words “City of Fort Collins” printed in the center. This flag is quite possibly the most visually unappealing flag i have ever seem, behind San Francisco. The colors remind me of the contents within my septic tank and you should never EVER have words on your flag. But there is light on the horizon, we could very easily change the design of this flag to something we could all be proud of. We could make it a graphic design contest between high schools or local artists and have a city wide vote for the new flag, it could attract publicity and become a fun city wide activity. I want this flag to become something that i shouldn’t be embarrassed about, and you should to.
