Please sign this petition to save Sugar Mill Elementary from closure. Sugar Mill Elementary was established in 1984, and is the epicenter of the Sugar Mill Community. Sugar Mill Elementary has made its own history in its 34 years of existence. Many of its former students returned to teach at this beloved school. Former students also grew families of their own, and their children attend this school. Our community consists of amazing teachers (2017 FBISD Teacher of the Year, Stephanie Clayton), a supportive Principal Lori Craig, caring parents, and a very involved PTA, just to name a few.
Based on the 2018 Facilities Master Plan, the option of closing Sugar Mill (SME), would result in modernizing Lakeview Elementary School. Our SME students would attend this larger building. This is a $22 million cost. SME would be converted into an FBISD Administration building. Closing and repurposing SME would create a void and dramatically impact home values in the area.
The other option is to Renovate and Expand SME, while closing Lakeview. This is a $9 million cost. Lakeview would be repurposed into an FBISD Administration building.
SME has more land, and it would cost the district LESS! The choice is obvious. Save SME!!!
