Forsyth County GA Opposes Construction Proposals on Kelly Mill Rd. due to safety concerns
Why this petition matters
Our community is concerned in regards to construction proposals that have been submitted and are located on Kelly Mill Road in Forsyth County, Georgia. Proposals CP210001 & ZA3997.
Our concern is the immense influx of traffic the proposed 64-home subdivision will bring, in addition to the traffic a 67k sq. ft. size place of worship (the approximate size of a Wal-Mart) will draw during times of worship or festivals, and other events. This traffic will also cause impediment of safety/emergency vehicles in the area. All this along a smaller road, in an already congested and highly-populated residential area, which will bring increased safety issues, noise, and traffic accidents. With Kelly Mill Elementary, West Forsyth High School, many large-scale neighborhoods (including upcoming neighborhoods), the newly added LIDL grocery, and the Montessori school coming soon already on this small road, Kelly Mill Road is not wide enough to support heavy two-way traffic. Especially with West Forsyth High School and Kelly Mill Elementary school buses running past the proposed sites twice a day on a daily basis. Kelly Mill Road does NOT have the capacity for the proposed traffic flow. This has the realistic potential to add a total of 3-4,000 new vehicles at the Bethelview/Kelly Mill Road location. Currently, have you ever driven down Bethelview Rd. at 5 p.m. on a weeknight? You're sitting in traffic already from GA400 all the way to the Kelly Mill Rd. stop light and that's after Bethelview was widened.
In addition, the schools and residents on Kelly Mill Road will have to endure massive construction equipment and vehicles such as excavators, logging trucks, bulldozers, concrete trucks, paving trucks, massive dump trucks, (etc.) which would compromise the safety of our school buses, children, and residents on a small road for an extended period of time. Not to mention the noise pollution that the aforementioned vehicles will bring.
Lastly, we have significant concerns based on the architectural designs submitted. What has been proposed does NOT comply to the Comprehensive Plan, nor the design standards for the Campground area. In summary, the opposition is based on the vast traffic, safety, and noise impact on the current residents, with no plan at all to mitigate that burdensome and unsafe impact.
