Protect students from school shootings

On February 14, 2018, a school shooting at Stoneman Douglas High School, in Parkland, Florida, resulted in 17 fatalities. This incident is the 18th school shooting since the start of 2018 and one of the deadliest mass shootings in modern U.S. history. With this tragedy shaking the entire nation, it is clear that some form of action to protect students must bet taken before more lives are lost to evil.
Currently, Lambert High School is an open campus school. Building doors are left unlocked during school hours due to the use of outside trailer classrooms. Though this may be convenient for students moving in and out of the building, it allows practically anyone to walk into the building at any time. This system leaves students vulnerable to outsiders. We believe that it is necessary to start locking all school doors to prevent a school shooting and other accidents.
We would also like to request that other appropriate measures, such as active shooter drills, are taken to ensure safety. Lambert students feel unprepared for survival if a horrific situation similar to the Parkland shooting were to arise at our school.
In a society where high school shootings have become common, not much is being done or talked about in order to save innocent children from becoming victims. No student should have to live in fear while attending school and receiving an education. Before it is too late, we must make a change.
