I have created this change petition in order to persuade state governments to dedicate one day in a month, preferably a Sunday, to impose a state lockdown which means that on this specific day, there are no industrial activities, there are no vehicles on roads and all businesses are closed and only essential services are functional. 

There are 28 states in India and there are 4 Sunday's in most of the months. I propose that all the 28 states work on a plan and divide themselves in 4 groups of 7 states each on the basis of various parameters for these states such as their GDP's, their economic and industrial activities, their geographical location, their population, etc. Now, these four groups should respectively assign one of the Sunday's in a month to observe a lockdown. This would mean that for each Sunday in a month, there would be 7 lockdown days observed somewhere in the country. Imagine, how this would significantly help in reducing pollution level when all the 4 Sunday's are considered.

We all have noticed on how this nation-wide lockdown has benefited our planet. In our country, rivers like Ganga and Yamuna which are arguably the most polluted rivers in the world have rejuvenated, Air quality even in worst polluted cities like Delhi has improved to good and people could see mountains from far flung cities.This is an indication on how fast the earth could heal itself when human activities are curbed.

Decades of government policies on environment could not achieve the outcome that this nationwide lockdown has brought.

 There may be economic losses at some levels initially but implementing this lockdown would encourage adaption of sustainable environment friendly alternatives in due course and reduce our dependence on environmentally hazardous materials.

If we can live through months of lockdown, we can also make this change an integral part of our life.
