Churcham Parish Council started this petition to Forest of Dean District Council

The Forest of Dean District Council (FoDDC) have approved a new settlement as the preferred option for the housing plan for the district. This preferred option is to site 5000 houses between the A40 and A48 in the parish of Churcham. The extent of this development, if approved, will cover an area of 470 acres of greenfield land.

Churcham Parish Council have not been consulted on the strategy and are against a development of this size in the parish. Indeed it will change our rural community into an urban one. FoDDC are calling this development a "settlement" of an absolute minimum of 4000 houses and yet local towns will have similar if not smaller populations; Newent approx. 5050, Cinderford 8500 and Coleford 8500 to list but a few examples. This development would have a huge detrimental impact on local biodiversity, increasing  the possibility of flooding and water run-off risks not to mention the impact on climate with the increase in vehicular transport.

The traffic this development will generate will be disabling for the parish and area as a whole causing major problems on our road network. Any local commuters are aware of the major traffic problems already experienced around the Highnam and Over areas and this development will dramatically increase these issues.

We, the Parish Council, have had no details or been consulted over this, we don't know where it is being sited or what landowners are being affected. FoDDC have a further meeting on the 15th October 2020 to put forward the strategy to the planning committee and, if approved, there will be an 8 week consultation period where the parish council and parish can then express our views. It seems perverse that a strategy to site a development of this size in our community is being taken and us the residents only have a chance to comment after the strategy is decided!!!

I wanted to advise people this was happening and please spread the word. Please sign this petition to register your objection to a development of this size and please do keep up with updates.

Many thanks,

John Francis

Chairman, Churcham Parish Council
