A huge thank you to everyone who has supported this petition! We are excited to say we have come up with a list of demands that will hopefully provide a clearer plan of action moving forward. We are of course open to any and all input! We implore Fordham to prove that they truly care about their BIPOC students who suffer directly from the brutality of the NYPD and other police departments around the country, and meet these demands:
1. Fordham will commit to complete transparency about misconduct records of former NYPD officers who are now in Public Safety.
2. Fordham will disclose the percentage of officers in Public Safety who are former NYPD officers.
3. Fordham will commit to no NYPD assisting any public events managed by Fordham University, only Public Safety.
4. Fordham will release a public statement saying that they will limit their collaboration with the NYPD only to emergencies, there should be no police on campus or at Fordham events if there is no imminent threat. For security, they should use Public Safety.
6. Fordham will not request that NYPD patrol the Belmont neighborhood on their behalf.
5. Fordham will actively search for alternative hiring sources for Public Safety staff so as to perpetuate the dangerous biases held by NYPD officers on our campus.
6. Fordham will release a public statement condemning the NYPD for their violent tactics against peaceful protestors as antithetical to Jesuit Values.
