The console on the ceiling of Ford Ranger's will fall off after some time even if the console is not used/ touched. The cause is due to a defect in the design and selection of a material where the plastic become brittle over time (perhaps due to heat) and due to normal vibrations of the car, will cause the 6 pieces of plastic holding the console in place to break resulting in the console falling out.

When contacted, the official Ford service centre will charge over RM1,000 to replace the console even if the car is still under warranty. Mind you, this is purely just a plastic item. Secondly, the service center claims that this issue is not a "common" issue. 

The purpose of this petition is to give Ford Ranger owners who have experienced the same issue, to have their voices heard. If enough Ford Ranger owners sign this petition, we can:

1. demonstrate to Sime Darby Auto Connection (SDAC) who are the distributors for Ford in Malaysia to recognise that this is actually a wide-spread issue among owners;
2. to petition SDAC to address this defect by replacing the item with a material that does not become brittle and break over time. e.g. use a flexible plastic as opposed to the brittle ABS plastic;
3. to petition SDAC to offer a free replacement to Ford Ranger owners or at the very least, offer a reasonable price for its replacement. The current pricing of >RM1,000 for a piece of plastic that breaks without any cause by owners is a just cause for complaint by supporters of Ford.
