Ford Motor Company: Recall Vehicles with Faulty Power Transfer Units
Ford Motor Company: Recall Vehicles with Faulty Power Transfer Units
The Issue
I own a 2013 Ford Edge, which has less-than 70K miles. Recently, I was shocked to learn that the Power Transfer Unit (PTU) in my vehicle needs replacement. The PTU sits under the engine, receives power from the transmission and via gears in the unit, sends power out (via shafts) to the two front wheels and out to the rear differential.
These PTUs are supposed to be lubricated for life and not require service (except in very specific circumstances). The reality is quite different. Due to poor design these units fail at an alarmingly high rate and the cost for replacement averages $2000.
These units are in many, if not all Ford and Lincoln All-Wheel Drive (AWD) vehicles produced over the past 10+ years. There could be 100s of thousands (maybe millions) of vehicles with these faulty units.
Ford Motor Company must be held accountable for a poor design and reimburse owners for this repair/replacement. It is unacceptable that Ford has not already done so and owners should not be burdened with unexpected costs they should not bear.
Ford Motor Company must take responsibility for these faulty units by recalling any and all vehicles equipped with them. We cannot allow such negligence to continue unchecked as it puts undue financial strain on hardworking individuals who trusted in the quality of their products.
Therefore, we urge everyone reading this petition to join us in demanding that Ford Motor Company recall all vehicles fitted with these problematic Power Transfer Units. Your signature can make a difference and prevent others from facing similar hardships in the future. Please sign this petition today!
