Hello,
This is my contribution to Citizen's Discussion at Tuesday's City Council meeting:
Good morning,
I am concerned about the conduct of the “Proud Stewards of America's Mountain”.
The Manitou Incline Task Force operated in 2009 and 2010. We were told that an alternate route down would be built to alleviate the overuse of the Barr Trail.
When can we expect the alternate route down from the top of the Incline to be open?
The city said that by widening the doors on the new summit house complex at the top of Pikes Peak the capacity of the facility would be increased to 1031.
This appears to have been an effort to deceive the public. The facility still only holds 450 people comfortable. If 1031 people were in that facility at one time the overcrowding would be worse than in the old facility.
Does the new Summit House complex qualify for 1031 or is the capacity allowed by the Fire Marshall only 676?
The section of the Barr Trail that the city acquired in the land swap needs major work.
When is the city going to have a drainage study done or replace the fence?
My point in all of this is that there is room for great improvement.
The city is indeed obligated to be “Proud Stewards of America's Mountain” but we have perhaps failed in the past in these and other areas.
Thank you, Carl Strow
