Good Morning,
I am demanding that the land swap be reversed. I asked for the estimated cost of the repairs to the section of the Barr Trail that the City was acquiring during the public comment process. The City withheld this information from the public, therefore the public comment process is invalid.
What is the City hiding? I have asked this simple question for over 3 and a half years. Why is the City refusing to answer? I will not go away or stop asking the question until I get an honest answer. The public has a right to know.
I had not been on the Barr Trail for a little over a year. I hiked up a little over a half a mile recently. The trail is deteriorating. It has visible damage that was not there a year ago. I saw several places where water runs down the trail, and where it leaves the trail part of the trail is being carved out. This damage will get worse and worse until it is repaired. How many washouts are their on the land that we own?
Did the City host the Accent and Marathon, and not mark the washouts? No cones or roping off? If those washouts were on a trail in a City park they would be treated as a huge problem and hazard. How many runners passed those washouts that weekend? The City is so determined to cover up the cost of the needed repairs that it is acting recklessly.
The maintenance that the City of Manitou is doing on the Barr Trail is inadequate. Please tell us: has RMFI told the City that more maintenance is necessary? Are they concerned about the stability of the trail? Have they told the City that the trail is deteriorating?
Are the communications between the City and RMFI classified information? Why would I not be given factual answers to my request for the cost of each specific category of repairs?
The washouts are symptoms of extreme drainage problems. What is the estimated cost for the study of the drainage issues? What is the estimated cost for the actual drainage work? I do not believe that RMFI has not provided the City with these specific numbers.
As I said the public comment process is invalid because the City refused to provide the public with this information before the land swap was approved. Today the City is defaming my character by your refusal to answer. You are implying that I do not know what I am talking about, when in truth you are lying to the public. I am sure that every member of this council knows the answers to my questions. To withold such information from the public would constitute a cover up.
