Labour has won a landslide victory in the General Election and will have complete power over Parliament for the next five years. The parliamentary opposition will be fragmented and demoralised, at least for the first year. So, it will be vital that strong interest groups exist outside Parliament to hold Labour to its promises and to pursue urgent issues.
This is particularly true for older people, as Labour has been silent on the threats to the state pension, has said nothing about compensation for the 1950s women (WASPI) and has been vague in the extreme about how the new Government will solve the social care crisis.
