Dear Administration,

It has come to our attention that there are talks about possibly removing the cats on our campus.
We, the undersigned, are writing to express our serious concerns regarding the possible eradication of these beloved cats from our college campus. Many of these cats have been longstanding college community residents, providing comfort and companionship to countless students over the years. Most of them are neutered and have successfully coexisted in harmony with our campus environment.

The presence of these cats is not merely a matter of preference; they play an essential role in the mental health and well-being of many students. Their calming presence offers support during stressful times and fosters a sense of community among those who take the time to appreciate them. Because cats claim their spaces, the BC cats also contribute to the protection of the environment as their presence ensures that other more dominant, and possibly unneutered, cats do not take up residence here.

We urge the administration to reconsider any plans they maybe considering for mass trapping and removal of these animals without the meaningful input of students, faculty, and community members. Cats forcibly removed can lead to devastating consequences for the animal and the college community in general. Decisions affecting our community should reflect the values and sentiments of those who actively participate in it.

Please join us in advocating for a solution that respects the needs and asks of all members of our campus community. We ask that you prioritize dialogue and collaboration over swift action that may disregard the important role these cats play in our lives.

Thank you for your attention to this matter.

Sincerely,

Broward College student and local community members
