Hi, this petition is written by Sadie and Valeria, manta rays are dying out for many reasons. One reason is for the manta ray gills. The manta ray gills are being used for folklore in Chinese medicine. Most people only used the gills which is a very small portion of the manta ray. Asian markets are mainly the reason that these animals are getting driven to extinction. For example, 99% of all gill plates come from a city in China named Guangzhou. Climate change, overfishing, and habitat loss are also a part of driving these animals to extinction. if people don't act fast these animals might not be around for the next generation to come. Also, scientists have so. much more to learn about these rays if they go exnicted there will be so many unanswered questions. If we want to change we need to act fast and stop the trading and selling of manta rays. Anyone can make a difference help inform people to stop buying Manta ray gills. For example, most of the consumers in Asian markets took a survey and the majority had no idea how little of the Manta ray is used. We need to act fast and smart to make a difference remember one person can make a difference.
