On behalf of Kristen, we are demanding full accountability and justice for her beloved Sweet Peach, and her surviving dogs, Oscar, Duke, and Estee. Kristen’s tragic death has left her family, friends, and the wider Houston community grieving, while the cruel treatment and abandonment of her animals adds another layer of unimaginable pain.

While Chance Chavez has been charged with Kristen’s murder, we are urging the Harris County District Attorney’s Office to add the following charges in accordance with the Texas Penal Code:

1. Animal Cruelty (Texas Penal Code §42.092 – Cruelty to Non-Livestock Animals):

Sweet Peach was found deceased, and all four dogs were abandoned under severe neglect. Chavez’s actions demonstrate clear violations of this statute, which protects animals from abuse, cruel treatment, and unnecessary suffering.

2. Illegal Dumping (Texas Health & Safety Code §365.012 – Illegal Dumping):

The act of dumping these animals—living and deceased—is a criminal offense under Texas law and must be fully prosecuted.

What We Urge the DA to Do:

 • Pursue additional charges of animal cruelty for the negligent and abusive treatment of Sweet Peach, Oscar, Duke, and Estee.

 • Charge illegal dumping related to the abandonment of all four animals.

 • Send a message that both human life and animal welfare are valued and protected under Texas law.

Kristen deeply loved these animals. They were her children. The Houston community, Kristen’s family, and animal lovers across the world came together to locate the surviving dogs and recover Sweet Peach. Now, in Kristen’s name, we seek full justice — for her, for her animals, and for the community standing behind them.

We respectfully request that the District Attorney take swift and comprehensive legal action to ensure that Chance Chavez is held fully accountable for every life harmed.
