The Issue

In 2025, 15-year-old Harvey Willgoose tragically lost his life after being stabbed at school by another 15-year-old. This devastating event has deeply affected the community and highlights the urgent need for proactive steps to prevent such tragedies in the future. No family should have to go through the pain and loss they have faced.

Severe bleeding is a leading cause of preventable deaths in the UK, especially among young people involved in accidents or violent incidents. The British Red Cross reports that around 27,000 people, mostly young individuals, suffer stab wounds each year. In these critical moments, quick and effective first aid can mean the difference between life and death.

Placing bleed kits in all secondary schools and youth clubs is a crucial move toward improving safety and preparedness. These compact, easy-to-use kits contain the essentials to control bleeding until professional help arrives. Sadly, many schools and clubs are not equipped for such emergencies, putting lives at unnecessary risk.

We call on the government to pass a law requiring all educational and youth-focused institutions to have immediate access to bleed kits. This life-saving gear should be as common as fire extinguishers, with staff and volunteers trained to use them effectively in emergencies.

By signing this petition, you’re advocating for safer spaces for young people, honouring Harvey Willgoose’s memory, and helping spare other families from similar heartbreak. Let’s take a stand to protect our youth—sign the petition and help make our schools and clubs safer for everyone.
