Aussie dogs deserve accurate food labelling

The issue

Aussie's love their dogs and want only the best for them, they also want to know what they are feeding their fur baby.

However, due to dog food labelling being unregulated in Australia, the country of origin of these products, and ingredients within, is often unknown or misleading.

The majority of dog food sold in Australia is either imported or contains a mix of local and imported ingredients, some from places that don't uphold the same stringent environmental and ethical standards we expect locally. This can increase the risk of health issues, and can even result in death.

Aussie dogs deserve the best, and their parents deserve to know where the food they're feeding their dog is from.

Legislative change can bring about a cultural shift, which would be good for dog's and their owners, good for the environment, and good for those in the business of manufacturing sustainable dog food here in Australia.

We the signatories of this petition ask Food Standards Australia New Zealand to amend legislation to mandate the use of clear and accurate labelling (particularly with regard to the country of origin) for all dog food and treats sold in Australia.
