I am petitioning the FDA for regulations regarding product labeling.  Currently, manufacturers are not required to disclose whether their products (food, medication, hygiene products, etc) contain mammalian derived ingredients, flavorings, or by-products.

This labeling is vital to persons suffering with the newly discovered alpha-gal allergy.  As of now, there are thousands of Americans with this allergy and it is believed there are many many more who have not been diagnosed as yet.  

Mammal by-products are "hidden" in products under obscure names.  Magnesium stearate, casein, whey, sugar and many many many others for example.  Even when you research the ingredients, it is nearly impossible to identify mammalian derived substances.  "Natural Flavors" is another huge category that may or may not contain mammal.

This is a life-threatening condition.  Exposure to alpha-gal can cause a myriad of reactions including anaphylaxis and cardiac arrest.  If you don't have alpha-gal, it is highly likely that you know someone who does.  

Please consider signing this petition to save the lives of alpha-gal allergy victims!  We didn't get this condition because of unhealthy choices.
