Ban brominated vegetable oil from all U.S. food products!

The Issue

A couple of years ago, my friend warned me to stop drinking Mountain Dew because it contained brominated vegetable oil (BVO for short). I'd been drinking caffeinated sodas for a long time before I'd even heard of this. How bad could this one little ingredient be? He gave me some links, with the majority of them saying bromine could build up in breast and muscle tissue. To quote Wikipedia:

"There are case reports of adverse effects associated with excessive consumption of BVO-containing products. One case reported that a man who consumed two to four liters of a soda containing BVO on a daily basis experienced memory loss, tremors, fatigue, loss of muscle coordination, headache, and ptosis of the right eyelid, as well as elevated serum chloride. In the two months it took to correctly diagnose the problem, the patient also lost the ability to walk. Eventually, bromism was diagnosed and hemodialysis was prescribed which resulted in a reversal of the disorder."

While this is an extreme case, bromine still isn't healthy for anyone, especially young children and the elderly. India, Japan, and the European Union have already banned BVO, so wouldn't it make sense for the United States to do the same? We should protect the health of our people, even - and especially - during a pandemic.
