In November, the Fond du Lac City Council voted to halt the Lakeside Park Pavilion project for 90 days to give the public and investors a chance to come forward with a Master Plan for Lakeside Park. Since the pause, the Supporters of Lakeside Park Exploratory Committee has formed and created a design which includes 20 of the 27 original suggestions from the 2015 Lakeside Park Exploratory Committee's recommendations.
These recommendations include, but not limited to:
- Updated Lakeview Pavilion
- Island Amphitheater
- Seasonal Ice Rink
- Wharf Bistro
- Boat Docks
- History Museum
- Meeting Space
- Walking Paths
- Additional Parking
- More Green Space on the Lakeside
- Newly Constructed Bridge connecting the island to Park Avenue
On February 12, the City Council authorized a feasibility study and the new plans in concept (stated above). This fall the City Council will vote on authorizing funds to complete this Master Plan with combined support financially from the private sector.
Rather than spending the approved $3.29 million on the pavilion alone, a remodel would has been authorized for a total of $1.1 Million. A pledged amount of $4.6-$5 million has come from several businesses in a form of verbal commitment. The implementation would take place over the next three to five years. The public will have multiple opportunities to voice their opinions over the course of a few months as the feasibility study is completed.
With the pledged amount and plan in place, the next step is approval from the Fond du Lac City Council. Signing this petition shows your support in Fond du Lac's Lakeside Park Master Plan. The Public Private Partnership is a unique opportunity for the city with long term benefits.
Another way to help is to contact your city council members today, and ask them to support the Master Plan. Here is the link to their contact information.
