Build a new Crossville/Cumberland County animal shelter in a new visible location

As citizens of Cumberland County, we demand that the members of the county commission agree to support the construction of a new Crossville-Cumberland County Animal Center, to be built in a more visible, more accessible location. On land to be set aside by the City of Crossville for this purpose.

We further demand that the county commission allow the 501(c)3 public charity, Focas on Cumberland County Animal Shelter (FOCCAS) an additional five months to continue their capital campaign to raise the money necessary to fund the construction of a new intake/quarantine facility to be used as an addition to the adoption center being funded by both Cumberland County and the City of Crossville.

As a community of compassionate people, we reject the “dog pound at the dump” mentality.  We expect and deserve our local officials to follow guidelines put forth by the National Animal Care and Control Association; the experts in the field. We demand to have a community and family friendly sheltering facility that reflects the values of our citizens. We believe that as the public becomes more aware, more engaged, with the homeless pets of our community, they will become more responsible, more compassionate pet owners themselves. We know that we desperately need to increase the number of local adoptions and the only way to do that is to increase the number of visitors that come to the shelter. The first and best step to do that is to build the new animal shelter in a more visible, more accessible location. We also know a community gets an opportunity to build a new animal shelter every 20-30 years and what we are able to build now will affect the care and comfort of over 50,000 dogs, cats, puppies and kittens that will come through our shelter in the next two decades.
