Get Florida Senate Bill 572 passed to reduce time served by prisoners from 85% to 65%

Get Florida Senate Bill 572 passed to reduce time served by prisoners from 85% to 65%
The Issue
FL Senate Bill 572 was introduced earlier this year, shining light on an issue that many of us with family members who are incarcerated face. Bill 572 was proposed to reduce the mandatory 85% of time served statute to 65%, meaning possible early release for certain state offenders.
This petition is meant to get the conversation restarted with FL lawmakers on getting this law passed expeditiously, especially amid COVID-19 cases consistently rising within the state. It's no secret that society in general often overlooks those incarcerated but we shall be the voices for those who can't be heard from behind those gates and walls.
Additionally, it's also no secret that those incarcerated don't get the same level of healthcare (often times none at all) as one would in what they call the "free world". Currently there are over 6,200 Florida inmates who have tested positive for Covid. Coronavirus should not be their "life sentence".
Many of us have family members who don't have life-sentences and are expected to return to society, as it was ruled by a jury of their peers and an Honorable state judge that they deserve a second chance. Many of these offenders are parents, grandparents, and even spouses who have something to look forward to after their debt to society has been paid. In conclusion we hope to get this bill passed so those who are deserving get theirs.
