The Issue

Have you had problems with your community? Have you seen a dictatorship style Board of Directors? The State of Florida has Chapter 720, which mandates how HOA Boards are to handle community business. This is applicable to Townhomes, Condos, and Single Family Communities. Currently, the state departments such as the Department of Business and Professional Regulations only enforces this for Townhomes and Condo communities. There needs to be a change so that HOA Boards of single family homes are held accountable for their actions as well. In Camden Woods of Tampa, we have a board of directors that has violated a large chunk of Chapter 720, fining illegally, refusing to hold an annual election based on due diligence, harassing community members, threatening members, breaching their fiduciary duty, filing lawsuits, costing the community thousands of dollars in money. Only for community members to be told by the state that no one can help resolve the issues even though they are in clear violation of the State's Chapter 720 law. Help us get in front of our State Representatives for a change in the law and a department that will enforce it for all communities. Let's stand up for changes such as:

1. A dedicated department or committee that will enforce Chapter 720 for ALL Single Home communities, Townhomes, Condos, and more.

2. An easier process for the State Department or Committee to step in and assist struggling HOAs or out of control Boards.

3. The ability to report violations of Chapter 720 and have them investigated fully to protect Homeowners.
