Florida State Legislature/ Rick Scott: Stop Reduction of Bright Futures Award

The Florida State Government is planning to reduce the Florida Academic Scholar Award from $120 per credit hour to $101 per credit hour. For a student enrolled for 15 credit hours this reduces the award from $1875 per semester to $1515 and a total loss of $720 for the academic year. The Florida Academic Scholars Award/ Bright Futures Scholarship was earned by students in the state of Florida through academic excellence in high school coupled with volunteering services provided to students' local communities. The government has already reduced the promised aid of the award in the past to the point that many students find tremendous difficulty in affording their college education. Florida government cannot continue to reduce this award as lack of funding will result in decreased enrollment in Florida colleges due to financial hardships for many students. It is an insult to the hard work of students across Florida to continue to reduce an award which they earned through hours upon hours of academic excellence and community service. Education is such an important part of our society that to cut education funding would do much more harm than good for the state of Florida. Please contact Florida State Legislature and voice your opinion so that we can prevent this atrocity from happening. Here is a site where you can find the contact information for Governor Rick Scott
