Let Florida Students Vote

The Issue

Florida law requires that every valid identification for voting include a signature, or else the voter will have to provide a secondary form of ID. For many Florida college students, this means that their student identification is not a valid form of voter ID unless they provide a second form of ID, a requirement that could leave students without a means to vote.

This also puts Florida college students behind its peers. As this article on student ID as voter ID in the South highlights, most of the states in the South allow their college students to freely use their voter ID, including our neighbors in Alabama and Georgia (with some exceptions). Most recently, in 2016 Louisiana passed a law which required that public universities in the state design their student IDs so that students may use them as voter ID - Louisiana has a voter ID law very similar to that of Florida.

So, we are simply asking that Florida catch up with its peers, and require that all public universities in the state design student IDs so that all Florida students may use their student ID as voter ID, not just the select universities that already comply with this rule. In Louisiana, implementation was swift and increased access for thousands of Louisiana students, so why can’t we do the same or better for our college students?

If you are a Florida resident, sign this petition to show your support for Florida college students, and tell the Florida legislature that Florida Students Vote.
