Stop The Shark Fin Trade in Florida! #NoFinFL

Chris Richardson asked you to act when he created this petition. And so you did! 184,000 signatures show how many people care about this issue.

The port of Miami is currently the largest port of landing of shark fins in the United States. (Read the Miami Herald article ) Many of the countries that export fins to the U.S. have no shark finning bans in place, making it very likely that fins coming into the U.S. are from sharks that have been finned, so the cruel practice of shark finning continues whether it is legal or not. The high prized fins drive a trade that is wiping shark populations off the planet. (to see images and read more info go to SharkAllies.org or google "shark finning")

THIS IS UNACCEPTABLE AND MUST STOP ONCE AND FOR ALL

Sharks are apex predators that are essential to the health of the oceans and indeed are exceptionally valuable to tourism in Florida. We must protect our sharks and underwater ecosystems.

We the undersigned are divers and tourists who visit Florida to dive and experience the beautiful and exceptional outdoor and underwater experience that Florida offers.

Knowing that Florida is enabling this internationally condemned practice is forcing us to reconsider visiting Florida.

We ask you to take a strong stand and pass legislation to stop the trade of shark fins in Florida
