Senate Bill 994, if passed will allow pet stores in Florida to continue to sell puppies and kittens they buy from puppy mills. SB994 recently passed the Regulated Industries Committee by a 5 - 2 vote and now sits with the Community Affairs Committee. If SB994 becomes law, Florida towns, cities, and counties will no longer be able to pass laws that prevent pet stores from selling puppies and kittens, nearly all of which come from puppy mills.
Here is what you can do to help. Copy the text below, paste this language in an email to the senators on the Community Affairs Committee, or use your own words. If you live in Florida, be sure to let them know that fact.
Dear Senator,
I ask that you vote "NO" to SB994. If this law passes it will allow pet stores to continue to import and sell puppies from puppy mills. These animals are raised inhumanly then sold to the unwary public with diseases and congenital problems that wind up costing consumers hundreds if not thousands of dollars. We don't need to promote business models that abuse animals and take advantage of Florida's citizens.
