Support Early Release for Non-Violent Crimes - Senate Bill 394 and House Bill 189

The Issue

This petition is in support of Senate Bill 394 and House Bill 189 which are both in support of early prison release for inmates who have been convicted of Non-Violent crimes and who have served at least 65% of their sentences.

The present law states that they can be released after 85% has been served. These bills are proposing to reduce that minimum to 65% of the total sentence time. Most of these people are first time offenders who were convicted only because of the monetary value of their crimes. They will not qualify for this time reduction unless they meet certain criteria during there time served such as good behavior and their willingness to work.

The only 2 states that have not passed this bill are Florida and Texas. We need to make room in our correctional facilities to avoid Florida needing additional funds to maintain them, which would in turn increase our taxes!

People make mistakes but their actions afterwards are what defines them. We need to give them the opportunity to get back to society and start fresh. Please let’s help them and their families be reunited again, and again this bill ONLY APPLIES FOR NON VIOLENT CRIMES.

In addition to this petition, you can also call to reach out to Chief Perry (352-264-4040) and James Grant (850-717-5064). State your name / phone number and say you are "In accordance with Senate Bill 394 and House Bill 189." Please call and leave the message. Thank you so much!
