On January 9,2016 while responding with his partner,Canton Ohio K9 Officer Jethro was shot and killed in the line of duty as he encountered an armed burglary  suspect. As Officer Jethro entered ahead of his partner and back up team of officers,he was shot numerous times in the head. His partners returned fire and apprehended the suspect. Officer Jethro was rushed to a nearby Veterinarian Hospital where he underwent emergency surgery and died 26 hours later. Within the same 24 hours another K9 officer was shot and killed and 2 more within 2 weeks. Totaling FOUR. The total for all of 2015.Basically no States have addressed the lack of law for our K9 Officers except Ohio this past week. Currently Florida Law makes it a 3rd degree Felony to kill a K9 Officer or Horse. Punishable by probation up to 3 years in prison. The same for taking of a crab trap in Florida ! PLEASE consider signing this petition before it happens here and send a message we won't tolerate our TRULY FIRST RESPONDERS being killed. Demand harsher punishment NOW ! Our Courageous Defenders deserve more respect than this current punishment and should be considered Officers as well.
