Ban the use of live animals as carnival prizes
Why this petition matters

You’ve all seen it. A small stall in the middle of the fair giving out goldfish, betta fish, or hermit crabs as prizes. These small innocent animals are given away because of their reputation of being easy to care for and sturdy. However, this is far the truth. Goldfish actually need a minimum of 30 gallons of water, proper filtration, heating, and other goldfish with them in order to remain healthy. Betta fish need at least 5 gallons and need their water to be at just the right temperature and Ph, and also require filtration in their tank. Hermit crabs need 6 gallons and need just the right humidity, temperature, and nutrition to live. None of these basic needs are met in carnival games. Not only that, but carnival employees also lie, saying that the small and bare habitats that the animals are currently in are “perfect” for them. However, this is not the end of the story. Hermit crabs are actually close to entering the endangered animals list. This is because of the pet industry. Since hermit crabs can’t reproduce in captivity, companies must capture hermit crabs from their natural habitat. There, they crack them out of their shells, killing many in the process. Then, they place them in painted shells, which are extremely toxic for hermit crabs. All of this only for the satisfaction of unsuspecting fair goers that believe that these animals are happy where they are, only to find them dead a few weeks later. You can make a difference to thousands of innocent goldfish, hermit crabs, and betta fish by signing this petition today!
