Why this petition matters

Started by Skyler Beede

As of the 2020 Presidential Race/Election, Florida has wrote a proposed amendment to the state Constitution declaring that the minimum wage in the state be raised to $10/hour on September 30, 2021 and be raised by $1 each consecutive year until 2026, when the wage reaches $15/hour.

With this Amendment being passed, many of us have realized the drastic effects this amendment will have on our economy. The value of the dollar in Florida will inflate, leading to rising prices, consumers being unable to pay for products from the increased prices, businesses closing due to a drastic dollar value change and failing to adjust to the increased costs and losses of business, workers being laid off from the increased labor costs, decreased tourism from the much higher living costs and expenses, and most importantly, the cost of living in the state will rise making it tougher for hard working, lower-income families to afford rising payments.

Raising the minimum wage will do absolutely nothing for this state except do harm to the state economy as a whole, and make it more difficult for many families to survive the increase. The cost of living will increase, the costs of groceries and gas will skyrocket, and the expense from leisurely activities will likely be unaffordable for many people. Small business and large corporations alike will suffer greatly from this adjustment, with many workers being laid off or businesses closing as a whole. Unemployment will skyrocket from the drastic change and social services like EBT and Unemployment will be required for many to survive through this astronomical change, adding more fuel to the national deficit of $27,000,000,000,000 and counting. (Increasing by about 1 million every 10 seconds)

I, as well as countless other Floridians and Florida businesses are asking for your support in the fight to repeal this amendment and safeguard our economic stability for the foreseeable future; not only for us, but for our children and their future lives in this beautiful state. Thank you.
