A baby gopher tortise was lit on fire and crushed (killed), all while the two girls; laughed and mock the poor defensless tortoise as it tried to get away. They video taped this entire act and posted it to facebook. The reason for this mosterious act, boredom.

"Let's light his head on fire," one girl said.

"Burn baby, burn baby," one said.

"Now you're scared of us, huh?" one said.

"Ugh, I just want him to die," one said.

This is the Video of it–

** I do not condone violence, death threats to the girls or their family. This behavior will not be tolerated.**

Truth is never illuminated through the use of violence.

Letter to
Florida Fish and Wildlife Commission and State Attorney Angela B. Corey

As you know the gopher tortoise is an endangered species in the state of Florida; as you also know, the gopher tortoise is a keystone species. If the gopher tortoise becomes extinct, the animals that depend on their burrows will also be lost forever. The loss of one baby does not just mean only one tortoise, it means the loss of her/his possible offspring as well, this was a great loss to the gopher tortoise population

The act that was committed was horrifying, amoral and cruel to say the least. The maximum penalty needs to be implemented, these girls not once but twice set the tortoise on fire, mocking and laughing while doing so. They only showed remorse for the tortoise after the people started to stand up against their horrendous actions. They caused severe anguish/pain and eventually killing a defenseless young tortoise.

These girls showed several times that they knew exactly what they were doing, this was not an accident in any way shape or form.

A mere slap on the wrists is not justice, they need to be held accountable for their actions; and their actions speak volumes of their innate character.

“The assumption that animals are without rights and the illusion that our treatment of them has no moral significance is a positively outrageous example of Western crudity and barbarity. Universal compassion is the only guarantee of morality.”
― Arthur Schopenhauer
