Flood Lights for soccer at Brewer Park, Ottawa

The Issue

We are an open community of more than 200 soccer players that play pick-up at Brewer Park on a near-daily basis. The numbers will vary based on availability

In the spring and summer, during the week, we play at 6pm, using whatever field is available. Lately, with the earlier sunset, we have been playing on the outfield of the large ball diamond, since it has flood lights and no one else is using it. Sadly none of the soccer fields at or near Brewer Park have lights while all three ball diamonds do!

On the evening of October 26th, when we hit the button, the lights didn't come on, forcing us to stop playing at 6:30pm or so. We have noticed that this is something that occurs every year, where the lights are disconnected during the late fall season on the basis that people don't use the fields at this time of year. But we're still using it!

We would love to continue playing into November when the weather is good. Therefore, we are reaching out to the mayor and representative committee members of the Community and Protective Services Committee (Ottawa city hall). We will appreciate any efforts you or your respective offices can make in having the lights reconnected for the next month or having it extended to light up the soccer fields for football lovers.
