FLOCK OUT OF KENNER: Say no to mass surveillance technology!
The Issue
FLOCK OUT OF KENNER!
We are a diverse coalition of concerned residents, community organizations, and faith leaders in Kenner who oppose the use of Flock surveillance cameras in our city.
There are at least 78 Flock cameras in the City of Kenner, including Automatic License Plate Readers (ALPRs), which are used to unlawfully capture residents' data, share it with a range of state and federal law enforcement agencies, and make arrests without proper warrants. The captured data is uploaded to a cloud-based network, with little transparency about how it is stored and used. The City is spending an estimated $225,000 on contract fees with Flock, in addition to camera purchases ($2,5000-$3,000 per camera), plus installation fees. The people of Kenner deserve to have a real say and full transparency regarding the use of our tax dollars.
This is a flagrant violation of our privacy rights and a violation of the Fourth Amendment. All people who care about defending our basic rights must take a stand!
OUR DEMANDS:
1. NO Flock Cameras in Kenner - end the contract now!
2. Remove all existing cameras
3. No arrests without a valid judicial warrant
4. Full transparency - the City should publish a data base revealing how this data is being used
5. Publicize the budget for all expenses relating to Flock cameras
6. Use Kenner's taxes for the city of Kenner - not for federal programs
7. No more mass surveillance - do not replace Flock with another form of surveillance technology.
