The Issue

We, the undersigned, are individuals with vision impairments and advocates for accessibility, who have encountered significant challenges while accessing the Flipkart website using screen readers on Android, laptops, and computers. Despite our repeated attempts to raise awareness through reviews on the Play Store and other platforms, we have not received a satisfactory response from Flipkart.

We firmly believe that all individuals, regardless of their abilities, should have equal access to online platforms and services. In today's digital age, e-commerce websites play a vital role in our lives, enabling us to conveniently shop for various products and services. However, the lack of accessibility on the Flipkart website prevents people with vision impairments from independently accessing and navigating the site, severely limiting our ability to participate fully in online shopping experiences.

We are calling on Flipkart, a leading e-commerce platform in India, to prioritize and invest in improving the accessibility of their website for users with vision impairments. Our goal is to ensure that individuals with visual disabilities can enjoy a seamless and inclusive online shopping experience, just like any other customer.

Key areas of concern include:

• Proper labelling of website elements: Screen readers rely on accurate labelling of buttons, links, images, and other interactive elements to convey information to users with vision impairments. Flipkart must ensure that all website components are properly labelled to enable accurate navigation and interaction.

• Structured headings and content: Clear and consistent headings and well-structured content enhance the browsing experience for screen reader users. Flipkart should ensure that the website content is organized in a logical manner, with appropriate heading hierarchy, to facilitate easier navigation and comprehension.

• Alternative text for images: Images plays a significant role in product descriptions and provide visual context. It is crucial for Flipkart to include descriptive alternative text for images, enabling screen readers to convey meaningful information to users who cannot see them.

• Keyboard navigation support: Many individuals with visual impairments rely on keyboard navigation to access websites. Flipkart needs to ensure that all website functionalities, including search, filters, and shopping cart, are fully accessible via keyboard commands, without any reliance on mouse or touch gestures.

• User feedback and transparency: Flipkart should establish a dedicated channel for users to report accessibility issues and provide feedback. Regular updates and transparency regarding their efforts to address these concerns are vital to building trust and demonstrating their commitment to accessibility.

By signing this petition, we urge Flipkart to take immediate action to address these accessibility concerns and work towards making their website inclusive and accessible for individuals with vision impairments. Let us stand together and show our support for equal access to online shopping experiences.

Please sign this petition and help us spread the word by sharing it with your friends, family, and social networks. Together, we can make a difference and advocate for a more inclusive digital world.

Thank you for your support!
