Firstly, thanks for your signatures and comments so far - the petition has received widespread support and has been invaluable in getting our views heard. The petition was featured last week on BBC North West and we will be meeting with Richard Fox from Fix the Fells this week to discuss the situation further. We are not seeking to stop all the work that Fix the Fells do. We are seeking to regulate the currently undemocratic and unregulated decision-making process used for choosing path repair. The current process for deciding on path repairs involves sign-off by a closed board of 5 members without an impartial review or consultation of plans. Indeed, there appears to be no written plans produced that can be inspected by the public. Fix the Fells need to have to go through the process of apply for planning permission before repairs can take place. As part of this process trail users must have the ability to provide feedback that is logged and open for all to review. Each path should have annotated plans drawn outlining exactly what is currently existing, and what is proposed. And in each section of trail, why the repairs are needed, and how they should help. This provides a blue-print for their work, and Fix the Fells can be held accountable if the repairs fail or the repairs go beyond what is in their planning permission.
