Immediately reopen the the Grenville Street Crossing, install gates and bells
The issue
Grenville Street pedestrian rail crossing in Hampton needs to be urgently reopened and the safety upgraded with the installation of gates and bells.
Whilst this work has been previously promised by the Victorian Government, it has not been delivered. There have been a number of tragic deaths at this Crossing over the last few decades, the most recent of which occurred in April when 83-year-old grandmother was killed by a train whilst walking her dog. This life would not have been lost, if the Government had kept to its commitment and installed gates within the promised timeframe.
The Minister for Public Transport, the Hon. Melissa Horne MLC needs to listen to the Community and reopen the highly used Crossing, whilst immediately undertaking the previously committed and planned safety improvements to install gates and bells.
